Jack Johnsons’ defiance led to Jesse Owens and Joe Louis transformative triumphs expanding good will beyond “a credit to their race” status, to a tangible repudiation of Nazi “master race” propaganda and the laurels of the nation.

Jackie Robinson, strengthened by his multi-sport collegiate athleticism and UCLA degree, converted America’s pastime to a true" field of dreams", for all Americans in the post-war era.

Muhammad Ali’s boastful proclamation, “I am the Greatest,” was fulfilled not in the boxing ring, but in his willingness to relinquish his title instead of his convictions concerning the Vietnam War… and in time  the nation followed.

In this New Century, we have a President of African American heritage. He espouses his love for sport and speaks of the role it has in his life.

Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. wrote. “Whether we realize it or not, each of us lives eternally ‘in the ‘red’ Recognition of one’s indebtness to past generations should inhibit the sense of self-sufficiency and promote awareness that personal growth cannot take place apart from meaningful relationships with other persons, that the “I” cannot attain fulfillment without the, “Thou”.”
